Greenbelt is an arts festival, taking place on Cheltenham Racecourse. It happens every year on the August Bank Holiday weekend and "is an independent Christian charity working to express love, creativity and justice in the arts and contemporary culture in the light of the Christian gospel."
Greenbelt was born in the 1970s, and was described as the ‘nice people’s pop festival’, but it aimed to be more than that. It’s focus was about living out your faith 24/7 and still has a big emphasis on the arts and music. It also has a strong campaigning element, being aware of injustice around the world and partnering with Christian Aid in raising awareness amongst festivalgoers.
Most people camp at Greenbelt and love the festival atmosphere. There is limited space to stay in local university halls but most people pick up their tent and find a bit of grass.
